Agra: An ancient city, sitting in the Indo-Gangetic plains on the banks of the river Yamuna in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, was founded by Sultan Sikandar from Lodhi Dynasty. The city reflects the history of the bygone era where it served as the capital of the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire. Under the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, Agra reached the zenith of architectural beauty.
Visiting Agra is a journey itself into the past where it serves as home to three UNESCO Heritage Sites of India- The Taj, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. Agra is on the Golden Triangle tourist circuit with Delhi and Jaipur.

The crowning glory of Muslim art, acclaimed for its lavish craft Pietra Dura, Taj is
“The embodiment of all things pure”
The epitome of beauty is the universally admired masterpiece of the UNESCO world's heritage and is one amongst the Seven Wonders of the World. The monument was built between 1631 and 1648 by Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
The Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore called
“The Taj Mahal- a teardrop on the cheek of time."
Set in the serenity of Mughal Gardens The Taj is the beauty personified where the colour of the translucent marble keeps changing from dawn to midnight giving it a magical aura.

Near the gardens of the Taj Mahal stands another UNESCO Heritage site, was built under the commission of Emperor Akbar in 1565. The Mughal monument, known as the Red Fort of Agra, also the “Lal –Qila” or “Fort Rouge” as the fort was built in red sandstone. The main areas to be visited are the Diwan-i-Aam - “Hall of Public Audience”, the Diwan-i-Khas -“Hall of Private Audience”, the Sheesh Mahal- “mirror palace” and the Sukh Niwas and two very beautiful mosques.

The city was founded in 1571 by Mohammad Akbar,  in honour of the great Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chisti and served as the former capital of the Mughal Empire. The city is an amazing conglomeration of red sandstone buildings that are the finest examples of Mughal architecture making it a UNESCO Heritage site. It is home to the Tomb of Salim Chisti, Jami Masjid, the colossal gateway - Buland Darwaza- raised in 1602, also called the Victory Gate is the highest and grandest gateway in India.
